Sam answers the door. I hide. It’s best, after the disaster with the Brownies. I’m not versed in the customs of suburbia. I shoo away wistful thoughts of my former life.
Sam’s muffled voice mingles with loud, unfamiliar ones. I perk up.
‘Honey, we have guests.’
Nobody but me would detect the strain in his voice.
They’re in the kitchen. Five of them, colourfully clad. They look like types who run away to join the circus. Sam’s out of his element.
‘Say hello to the neighbours.’
I smile. Put on my best “Welcome to the ring” voice. It’s show time.

I have again used one of the GU Creative Writing Society Flash Fiction February prompts (wistful). I’ve also used today’s Blogging 101 assignment as inspiration.
16 Feb 2015: Want to know more about the lion tamer’s daughter? Read the prequel Replacement Cat on 101 Words.
Ha! It is always showtime don’t you think..?

I like this. I’ve used the phrase, “it’s showtime” when certain guests come over. Thanks for this post.

I’m new to flash fiction – this is my third week of trying it out! I’ve tried a few different ones, one with a more generous word limit. The 100 word ones are quite tricky, but a great challenge. You pulled it off really well in that story. Sonya. Have you tried the Friday Fictioneers? That’s a 100 word picture prompt challenge that would suit you. Like you, I’m having fun with these things at the moment, although they’re taking time away from writing my third book! Lovely to chat to you. 🙂

I wouldn’t have guessed you’ve only been flashing for such a short time. 100 words is really quite short, but it was a deliberate choice. I’m editing a novel at the moment, and I don’t want to spend more than an hour a day on something else.
I’ve had a go at the Friday Fictioneers prompt last week. I reckon I’ll be back this week, it’s always good to have a little outside inspiration.
Lovely to chat to you, too. And I’ve added your books to my Goodreads To Read list 🙂
