Follow the Clues

I wake up in between trees, face on the ground. I don’t recognise the place. I don’t know how I got here. My mouth’s dry and gritty from inhaling dust.

The trees are shedding their leaves. Last time I was conscious, it was spring.

I hoist myself up. The movement causes a burst of pain to shoot from my head down my spine. I manage to sit, lean against a tree trunk. I’m nauseous with pain and fear. I look at the path in front of me.

There’s a message drawn into the dust.

It says: Thirsty? Follow the clues.

  1. I love this! Oh, how I love this. This flash fiction, that last line especially, is quite memorable (has a Criminal Minds feel to it). It would make a great opening to a book and movie. Tremendous job!

  2. Aah … that thirsty person again. You’ll really have to give her a bigger part somewhere, Sonya. Nice, concise story, too – a lot of detail in so few words. Well done. 🙂

    1. This is why I love photo challenges so much. It’s such fun to see what other writers make of photo prompts – a lot of different stories, usually, but sometimes two people come up with something incredibly similar 🙂
