Donna Smith had a good reason for choosing the gazebo in the park for the meetings. It was far from the shore.
‘You’re late.’
‘Had to take a detour. Harbour road’s closed,’ the detective replied.
Donna wondered what the emergency was. But they had business to attend.
‘Any evidence?’
‘You’re sure he’s having an affair?’
‘Why else would I’ve hired you?’
He handed over a stack of photographs.
’They don’t look like lovers to me.’
The photos seemed to confirm Ben’s claims. Did he anticipate she’d have him watched? She needed proof.
‘Look harder,’ she said.
‘Sure. It’s your money.’

To get the most out of my FFfAW story, I suggest you read Salvage first (but I hope it’ll work on it’s own, too). Links to all of this week’s stories can be found here.
It works. I knew a Donna or two.

Sounds like she is determined to prove he is having an affair and that makes me wonder why. Wonderful story Sonya!

I think she has convinced herself it’s true despite all evidence to the contrary.
Thank you, PJ!

Usually, someone who is anxious about such a thing is the one who is really hiding something.
Great continuation.

Thank you, Francesca! I meant to imply somewhere that she wants out of the marriage, but I just couldn’t fit it in. I might continue it, so it might still come.

If there isn’t any proof she may just have to come to the reality that she was wrong, and if she really wants out of the marriage, she needs to think of something that works….gee! maybe tell him she wants a divorce….but perhaps she wants HIM to file. A good continuation…lots of things in question.

Yes, I do need to think it through a bit so it makes sense in the end… Thank you, Jessie 🙂

It seems to me like she’s determined to find him at fault. If the emergency on the Harbour Road is what I think it might be then she may well be free of her marriage soon enough. Good story. 🙂

Well, the emergency is what you thought it was. I thought they’d die, but somehow the story has developed a mind of its own… It’s fun writing a serial, but also quite tricky 🙂
Thank you, Louise!

Interesting take with Donna trying to prove the affair and the title of your story. Makes me wonder if she’s just paranoid or at the least insecure. I enjoyed the dialogue.

Thank you! I think you’re the first to make the connection to the title. She is looking for proof that doesn’t exist…

Donna sounds like a very determined lady! I wonder whether he is actually having an affair, or she’s just looking for anything to suggest he is doing. Perhaps she wants out of the marriage herself, or she is just the overly clingy and suspicious person.

Great ending. I hope she’s got lots of money if she wants the detective to keep searching (and it could all be for nothing).
