It looks like a ruin. It looks like it’s not been lived in for centuries. Don’t let looks deceive you.
Seeing takes time – you won’t if you cast a casual glance at the tower, you need patience. Focus on the battlement. Don’t take your eyes away. Blink, if you must, but blink fast. Occupy your mind, distract it – think about a favourite holiday, the food you couldn’t live without, the person you desire. Relax. But don’t take your eyes away.
Don’t complain about the sun blinding you. They are easier to spot in bright sunshine.
You see them, don’t you?

Great piece. Perhaps, you see the ghosts of this long dead who lived and battled at this castle?

Perhaps they are… I deliberately left it open for the readers to decide for themselves. Glad you liked it!

Weeping angels. Must be weeping angels.
Loved the sudden dark turn at the end.

Our minds work in similar ways, I reckon. When I wrote “blink, if you must, but blink fast”, I thought, uhoh, weeping angels 😀

Wow, what an intense piece. Ah, this is my favorite thing about flash fictions, so much is said with so little words. This is one great story. Leaves room for so much . 🙂

Yes, I agree, that’s what makes flash fiction fabulous! Thank you, Ameena 🙂

Your interpretation of the prompt is excellent, Sonya. How well you have used words to influence… The last sentence is perfect. Wonderful prompt (thank you!) and great story 🙂
